Our First Blog

A restaurant? With a blog? What is this, 2010?

We’re sad to say it’s actually 2026, so it’s probably time to put away our beloved skinny jeans and studded belts. But hey, we are (mostly) a millennial crew after all, so this is a return to territory we know and love. We’ve decided to start a blog because we think what we’re doing at Bloomsday and Loretta’s is compelling and fun. Wait– do you guys even know that Bloomsday and Loretta’s are owned by the same restaurant group??

We think you might be interested in pulling back the curtain on all of the weird, difficult, funny things that give each of our restaurants their unique personalities.

What can you expect here? Behind-the-scenes peeks at upcoming events and happenings, character studies of our wonderfully wacky employees, and thoughtful essays about sourcing, creating and executing the menus you know and love. We’ll get into details, we’ll peel back layers, we’ll be real about our setbacks and “learning opportunities”, as we’ve decided to call our fuck ups.

In the coming months we’re super excited to expand the wine education at Bloomsday– did you hear about the wildly successful Wine 101 and Chardonnay & Friends classes we did this spring?? If not, keep your eyes on this spot! Our beverage director Chris Liu, in cahoots with his buddy and Philly wine professional Sande Friedman, have an awesome lineup of wine classes and events planned for the fall and winter.

Over at Loretta’s you can expect to hear from our zany Operations Manager Zöe Tanner about running that circus, plus features about our monthly coffee drinks and insane pastry spreads. Did you know that we donate a portion of sales from our specialty lattes to a different Philadelphia-based charity every month? Did you know that we bake pastries for Eagles players and staff to enjoy every time they’re at the Linc? We’ll talk about what makes these organizations so special to us, plus give you a look at our utterly silly methods of flavor r&d.

But wait… there’s even more beyond the cobblestone streets of Headhouse Square. Did you know that we own and operate Green Engine Coffee Co out in Haverford? Green Engine is the eldest daughter of the group, and like every eldest daughter she’s doing JUST FINE ON HER OWN, thank you very much.

So hop on this crazy train with us and we promise to show you the good, the bad and the weird. Welcome to our little world, nestled among the cobblestones of Headhouse Square!
