Party People
When we were building out the space at 414 S. 2nd Street that would eventually become Bloomsday, we knew from the jump that we wanted to incorporate a private dining room. Bloomsday’s expansive main dining room was designed to be a place for crowds to gather, but a private, intimate space was also necessary for our concept. We wanted a room for folks to celebrate engagements and baby showers and 70th birthday parties, but we also wanted a space where we could host classes and events of our own.
And so the fine folks at Ambit Architecture tucked a cozy little space behind our wine shop, and we got to work making it beautiful. First we hired artists Gina Triplett and Matt Curtis to paint an expansive, Pennsylvania-Dutch inspired mural on the back wall of the space. Then we filled the room with wine shelves, wide tables, comfortable chairs and a beautiful selection of dishware.
After that, we were off to the races! Over the past seven years, our private dining room has become a community hub– serving as the backdrop for bridal showers, tea parties, wine classes, tarot card readings, book club meetups, cookbook release parties, gingerbread house decorating classes… you name it! We’ve developed menus fit for every occasion, and facilitated some really fun bashes.
Intimate celebrations are fun, but what about big-ass parties? We love those too! In our main dining room, we’ve hosted weddings and retirement parties and even an end of life celebration. This October alone, our main dining room will serve as the backdrop for two weddings, an engagement party and a “congratulations for finally making partner at your law firm” party– and we couldn’t be happier to accommodate.
The takeaway here? We love to party! If our regular dinner/brunch services are our bread & butter, our private parties are the cherry on top of our sundae. We’re a small team, but we love to create hands-on, personalized experiences for people. Did you know that event coordinator Sara May used to be a stage manager, so she knows exactly what to do to ensure that the show always goes on? Did you know that chef/owner Kelsey Bush moonlights as a very talented floral designer? Beverage director Chris Liu will put together the perfect drink package for your special night, and front of house manager Michael Polk will ensure that your guests get the most personalized service ever.
